Google Introduces Gemini in Connected Cars

Google is preparing an update for cars equipped with its integrated system, introducing Gemini, its new assistant. This update will replace the current Google Assistant and aims to enhance the experience of natural conversations while providing vehicle-specific information and the ability to adjust various settings.

Alankar Agnihotri, senior product manager at Google, emphasized the company's commitment to improving cars equipped with Google integrated since their launch in 2020. According to him, this evolution means that Gemini will not be limited to new models but will also be accessible to vehicles already on the road through a simple software update.

General Motors and the Expansion of Gemini

This announcement comes at a time when General Motors has already revealed its intention to integrate Gemini into 4 million vehicles, covering models from 2022 and newer. This includes prestigious brands such as Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC. However, Google has not restricted this update to GM, suggesting that other brands may also benefit. The initial rollout will begin in English in the United States, with a gradual expansion in the coming months.

More Natural Interactions and Enhanced Features

With Gemini, drivers will be able to engage in smoother conversations with the system, such as asking for restaurant recommendations or music playlists, without being limited to precise commands. Gemini is also capable of managing text messages, providing real-time updates on the journey, and answering specific questions about the vehicle, including details on battery levels for electric cars.

An Accessible and Secure Update

Eligible users will see the option to upgrade to Gemini appear when they are connected to their Google account in their vehicle. Google also has plans to expand this update to other regions and languages. In the future, drivers will be able to securely access applications like Gmail, Calendar, and Google Home, further enhancing the integration of the Google ecosystem into the driving experience.
