Google Expands Gemini Features in France

On April 29, 2026, Google announced the expansion of its Gemini features in France, marking a new step in its personalization strategy. French users can now access the Memory feature, as well as new tools that allow them to import their preferences and histories from other AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude. These options were previously reserved for personal accounts outside of Europe.

A Memory for More Personalized Interactions

The Memory feature of Gemini is designed to automatically retain users' details and preferences over conversations. This includes interests, ongoing projects, and other elements of personal context, allowing Gemini to tailor its responses more personally. According to Google, the goal is to create an assistant that truly understands the user and evolves according to their needs, rather than providing generic and uniform responses. This setting, enabled by default, can be controlled at any time via the Settings of the Gemini app, under the Personal Context section and then Memory. Users can also delete individual conversations in the Activity section. This feature, available in the United States since the summer of 2025, is now being rolled out in France and will gradually extend to all accounts.

Importing from ChatGPT and Claude

In parallel, Google is introducing two migration tools to facilitate the transition for users coming from other AI assistants. The first tool allows for memory import: a prompt provided by Gemini can be copied into the original AI, generating a summary of accumulated preferences and context. This summary is then pasted into Gemini, which integrates it into its own personal context.

The second tool allows for the import of the entire discussion history in the form of a ZIP file. Users can thus review and resume their old conversations directly in Gemini. The import is limited to five ZIP files per day, with each file not exceeding 5 GB, and is reserved for personal Google accounts.
