Google connects Gemini Notebook to Google Play Books. Support remains selective, but 100,000 titles from major publishers are already available. Author notebooks and a verification pathway help users get started as part of an initiative called Expert Intelligence.

Test Without Purchase and Confirm Title Eligibility

It is possible to try out assisted reading without making a purchase by accessing featured notebooks from the Gemini Notebook page. A book and its subject can then be explored by asking questions or adding it to a new notebook. To check if a work is supported before purchasing, the Expert Intelligence page offers a carousel of titles in the "Start with an eligible book" section at the bottom. An offer also allows users to add a first free title via the "Take advantage of the offer" button. Compatibility can be verified from a book's page on Google Play by clicking on the question mark in the Tools icon: if the book is eligible, Gemini Notebook will be mentioned. It can also be checked directly in Gemini Notebook by adding a source and selecting Play Books after logging in.

Partial Coverage, 100,000 Titles, and Author Notebooks

Support currently only covers a portion of books, authors, and publishers. However, the compatible catalog already includes 100,000 titles, notably from Bloomsbury, De Gruyter Brill, and Penguin Random House. Google has also worked with over 15 bestselling authors to offer dedicated notebooks, which can be accessed after logging into the Gemini Notebook page. These notebooks aim to complement supported books with additional sources and information about the authors' work.

What Gemini Does with Your Books and Other Sources

Gemini Notebook can analyze books purchased on Google Play and, from an imported compatible work as a source, generate reports, quizzes, podcasts, and slideshows to facilitate research and learning. In addition to books, a notebook can aggregate websites, documents, images, as well as audio and video files. The integration with Google Play Books is presented as the first step of the Expert Intelligence initiative, which aims to help readers better understand their books, their authors, and their favorite subjects, and to incorporate them as sources in broader research projects.
