Google recently announced a significant update for its intelligent assistant Gemini, which can now generate a wide range of files. This advancement positions Gemini in the race of all-in-one AIs, enabling it to create various documents from simple text instructions.

A Strategic Update for Google

In a context of intense competition, Google has decided to enhance Gemini's capabilities by introducing file generation. Users can now create documents by specifying the desired format and then launching the assistant to obtain the desired file. Supported formats include Workspace files such as Docs, Sheets, and Slides, as well as other popular formats like PDF, DOCX, XLSX, CSV, TXT, RTF, Markdown, and even LaTeX, which is highly valued in the scientific community.

Increased Accessibility and Productivity

This new feature, available starting today, aims to improve user productivity by allowing them to quickly transition from an idea to a final document without leaving the Gemini application. In addition to the ability to download files, Google has integrated a dark mode and an option to transfer documents directly to Google Drive. Users can thus open their files in Docs, Sheets, or Slides with a single click, provided they have a Google account.

A Response to Competition

With this update, Google seeks to distinguish itself from competitors like OpenAI, which launched Prism, a scientific writing tool using LaTeX, and Anthropic, which introduced its own file generation solution in September 2025. By making this feature available to everyone, regardless of subscription, Google hopes to attract a broad audience and strengthen its position in the smart assistant market.
