Google has recently introduced significant updates to its productivity applications, including Sheets, Docs, and Slides, by integrating advanced features from Gemini. This artificial intelligence, already present in Google's tools, has expanded its capabilities to access sources like Gmail and Drive, enabling users to create documents in a more intuitive and automated manner. Now, a simple request can suffice to generate complete spreadsheets or presentations based on the information provided by the user. Users also have the option to specify which sources Gemini can use, and when a document is created, annotations indicate which information has been utilized.
Gemini Enhances Sheets with Advanced Features
One of the most notable developments concerns Sheets, where Gemini now offers the ability to create entire spreadsheets from simple instructions. Previously, users could ask Gemini to create tables, correct errors, or format data. Now, it is enough to describe a project, such as organizing a move, for Gemini to generate a checklist, contacts for utility services, and even a tracking sheet for moving quotes, drawing from the user's emails and files.
Additionally, Gemini can enrich existing spreadsheets by adding tables or dashboards and integrating data through the "Fill with Gemini" feature. This functionality allows, for example, tracking college applications by automatically filling in information such as deadlines and tuition fees, relying on Google searches.
Docs: Increased Customization with Gemini
In Docs, Gemini continues to enhance the user experience by refining writing and offering personalized assistance. Users can now ask Gemini to draft a document using contextual information, such as creating a newsletter based on meeting notes stored in emails. Furthermore, the new "Match Writing Style" option allows for harmonizing the tone and style of a document with that of another reference text.
Slides: Towards Automated Presentation Creation
Although the full functionality is not yet available, Slides will soon benefit from Gemini's ability to create presentation projects from start to finish. Currently, Gemini can already integrate new slides into an existing presentation, adhering to the overall theme and using relevant information from the user's files and emails. Users can also request specific adjustments, such as harmonizing slide colors or reducing their visual complexity.
Drive: Instant Answers and Better Document Understanding
Finally, Drive is equipped with new capabilities thanks to Gemini, which allows for instant answers about files and a better understanding of stored documents. With the AI Overview tool, users can obtain a summary of key information or ask complex questions, such as what items to provide to a tax advisor before filing a tax return.
These innovations are gradually being made available to Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers, as well as Workspace users, promising to transform the way users interact with their documents and thereby increasing their productivity.
