Gemini, the intelligent assistant of Google Workspace, takes a new step by integrating custom instructions directly into Google Docs. This evolution aims to make the tool even more indispensable for users of Google's office suite. After introducing features such as "Help Me Create," Google continues to innovate to enhance user productivity and efficiency.
A Memory of Preferences for a Tailored Experience
Until now, Gemini could remember user preferences on both web and mobile versions. This capability now extends to Google Docs, allowing the assistant to automatically adapt to the user's style, tone, and formatting preferences. According to a recent announcement, this feature saves time by avoiding the need to repeat the same instructions with each interaction.
For example, a user can ask Gemini to adopt a professional tone or to consistently include a three-point summary in its responses. Once these preferences are recorded, the AI will apply them automatically, confirming that the instructions have been taken into account. Users have the option to modify these settings at any time in the "Customization" section of the tool's settings.
Up to 1000 Custom Instructions Possible
Google offers considerable flexibility by allowing users to create up to 1000 active instructions to customize their experience with Gemini. However, this option is currently limited to Google Docs and is not yet available in other Google Workspace applications.
The rollout of this new feature began on May 4 and is expected to be completed in about two weeks. It is important to note that this feature is reserved for paying users of Google Workspace. It is accessible for Business, Enterprise, Education Plus subscriptions, as well as for Google AI Plus, Pro, Ultra, and Frontline Plus plans. Additionally, users with the Google AI Pro for Education, AI Expanded Access, and AI Ultra Access extensions will also be able to take advantage of this new feature.
