Why it matters : These tools represent a new step in the integration of voice and AI into Google applications.

Google is rolling out voice features in Gmail, Docs, and Keep this week in English, available on mobile depending on the subscription plan. Workspace Business customers are announced to be part of the program, though no timeline has been provided. These tools, based on Gemini Audio, were showcased in May and extend a series of voice innovations this year.

A mobile deployment in English reserved for certain subscriptions

The launch of the voice features begins this week in English. Gmail Live is accessible on iOS and Android for subscribers of Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra. Docs Live is offered on iOS and Android to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. Keep Live is available only on Android for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. Google plans to extend these three features to Google Workspace Business customers, without specifying a date.

Three voice uses for querying, drafting, and noting

With Gmail Live, users can verbally ask questions about the content of their inbox, such as the time of a flight or the date of an upcoming event. The assistant locates the information in the relevant emails and provides it orally, while displaying a transcription on the screen that points to the original messages. Docs Live creates a first draft from an oral prompt and, with the user's consent, can enrich this content using data from Gmail, Drive, Chat, and the web. Keep Live transforms dictated ideas into structured notes, such as a shopping list.

Gemini Audio building blocks in a sequence of launches

These innovations are based on the Gemini Audio models, which also power Gemini, and were presented in May during Google I/O. They are part of a series of voice-related additions: multi-application dictation was added to the Mac app in April, the Pixel 11 received a dictation tool called Rambler in August, and the Gemini 3.5 Transcribe model was introduced the same month. In March, Docs, Sheets, and Slides had already received document, spreadsheet, and presentation generation features. For several months, Google has been enhancing its applications with voice capabilities.
