General Motors is set to transform the user experience of its vehicles by integrating Google's AI assistant Gemini into approximately four million cars across the United States. This ambitious update concerns Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC models from the 2022 model year and newer, which already feature Google built-in. The deployment of this technology will occur through over-the-air software updates, spread over several months, for GM's infotainment system.
According to General Motors, this update represents one of the largest deployments of Gemini in the automotive sector. Users can expect a significant improvement over the current Google Assistant, thanks to a smarter and more intuitive AI assistant that will continue to enhance over time. Among the features offered by Gemini are messaging, navigation, music suggestions, and much more.
One of the major advancements of Gemini is its ability to provide a more conversational experience. Users will be able to ask questions or make requests in a more natural way, without having to remember specific commands. Initially, Gemini will be available in American English, but GM plans to expand its use to other markets and support additional languages in the future.
At the same time, GM announced that it has reached a significant milestone with its advanced driver assistance system, Super Cruise. Nearly 750,000 vehicles equipped with this technology have traveled one billion miles in hands-free mode. Although Super Cruise is not fully autonomous, it allows drivers to take their hands off the wheel on compatible roads in the United States and Canada, representing serious competition for companies like Tesla.
