Google Maps: Enhanced Features for an Optimized User Experience
Google has recently unveiled three new features for its Maps application, aimed at simplifying the sharing of experiences among users. While Google Maps is already a powerful tool, the company is relying on the active participation of its users to enrich the available information. Indeed, reviews, photos, and videos shared by users allow others to make more informed choices when planning their visits. Thanks to the new updates, it is now possible to access your photos more quickly to complement information about the places visited. Additionally, Google's artificial intelligence, named Gemini, can automatically caption photos, and users can more easily review their past contributions.
Personalized Suggestions for Photos and Videos
Sharing photos or videos on Google Maps has become even more intuitive thanks to a new feature that offers suggestions based on your saved images, provided you have given your consent. This option is accessible via the Contribute tab in the app. By browsing this tab, users can discover recommendations for photos and videos or choose to upload others.
Although the exact mechanism for selecting recommendations is not detailed, it is likely that the geolocation of photos, if enabled, plays a key role in this process. Currently, this feature is available globally on Android and is expected to be extended to iOS in the coming months.
Automatic Captions by Gemini
Google's Gemini artificial intelligence is now capable of analyzing and automatically captioning selected photos for sharing. This feature is particularly useful when a user chooses to share multiple photos without wanting to caption them individually.
If the captions generated by Gemini are not suitable, it is still possible to modify or delete them before publication. For now, this option is available in English on iOS, with plans to extend it to other languages and to Android in the future.
Highlighting User Contributions
Users participating in Google's Local Guide community program can now better visualize their past contributions. By contributing, they accumulate points that allow them to progress within the program. The points and badges earned are now displayed more prominently on the user's profile.
Google has also introduced gold profiles for the most active contributors, allowing for the distinction of reviews from experienced users. These updates are being gradually rolled out on Android, iOS, and desktop.
