Google recently announced the integration of new features into its Gemini tool, allowing users to easily transfer data from their old chatbot to this platform. This initiative comes shortly after Anthropic introduced a similar update for its AI, Claude.
The new features, dubbed “Import Memory” and “Import Chat History,” are now available on the desktop version of Gemini. They enable users to copy all the information their previous AI held about them, thus simplifying the transition to Gemini.
To use the “Import Memory” tool, users must follow a simple process: copy a prompt suggested by Gemini into their old AI, then paste the response obtained into Gemini. This allows Gemini to align with the user preferences already established.
The “Import Chat History” feature offers the ability to export all chats from the old AI in the form of a .zip file, with a maximum size of 5 GB. This file can then be uploaded to Gemini, allowing users to pick up their conversations where they left off. Additionally, it is possible to manage these imported histories by deleting specific conversations or entire .zip files through the app's settings.
In parallel, Google has decided to rename “past chats” to “memory” in Gemini, thus highlighting the importance of this data for the user experience. These new features are available for both free and paid accounts, but are not yet available for professional, enterprise accounts, or for users under 18.
