Google Gemini Challenges ChatGPT with 950 Million Active Users
Google recently revealed that its Gemini application has reached an impressive total of 950 million monthly active users. This figure, which has been steadily increasing over the past year, brings Gemini closer to its direct competitor, ChatGPT.
During a financial results conference, Google CEO Sundar Pichai emphasized that the number of daily active users of Gemini has tripled over the last twelve months. This growth places Gemini just behind ChatGPT, which, according to data from Sensor Tower, has approximately 1 billion monthly users.
Last October, Gemini had around 650 million monthly active users. This figure surpassed 750 million in February, during the release of the fourth quarter 2025 financial results.
New Models for Increased Efficiency
To support this growth, Google has introduced more efficient and cost-effective models. Among the three new models launched this week, the Gemini 3.6 Flash stands out for its improved coding performance while consuming fewer tokens, making it more economical.
However, Google's 3.5 Pro model is still experiencing delays. Despite this, the company has indicated that initial work on Gemini 4 is already underway. These developments suggest that Gemini continues to attract a growing number of users, thereby solidifying its position in the generative AI application market.
