Google announced on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, the launch of its Gemini application for macOS. This conversational agent, which now boasts over 750 million monthly active users, follows in the footsteps of ChatGPT and Claude, which have been available on Mac for several months.
Seamless Integration with macOS
The Gemini application has been fully developed in Swift, a programming language optimized for the Apple ecosystem. It integrates directly into users' work environments with convenient keyboard shortcuts: Option + Space to open a mini-chat and Option + Shift + Space to access a main window. These shortcuts can be customized in the application settings. Additionally, Gemini is accessible via an icon in the menu bar or from the Dock.
A notable feature of this macOS version is the ability to share any visible item on the screen with Gemini for assistance, including local files. To do this, the user must click on Add Files and Tools and select Share Window. This action requires granting Gemini permission to access the computer's system information.

The Gemini application for macOS offers an experience similar to its web, Android, and iOS versions. It allows users to:

Access Conditions and Availability
The Gemini application is available for free at gemini.google/mac in all countries where Gemini is deployed, including France. It is accessible to users aged 13 and older with a Google account. To function, the application requires macOS 15 (Sequoia) or a later version, at least 8 GB of RAM, and 200 MB of free disk space.
