Full Analysis

Google Meet expands the capabilities of its AI note-taking tool, Gemini, beyond its own virtual meetings. Now, Gemini can generate summaries and transcriptions not only for meetings on Google Meet but also for in-person meetings, as well as those taking place on other platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams. This development was initially reported by 9to5Google.

Previously, support for in-person meetings was limited to alpha users and only available on Android. According to Google's support page, if an external user wants to join a meeting, it can be converted into a traditional video call. Additionally, the feature also applies to impromptu meetings, without requiring presence in a conference room or prior scheduling.

To use this feature, users can access the Google Meet home screen, whether through the mobile app or on a desktop computer, and select the option "take notes for me." Gemini then takes care of creating a summary and "action items" from the meeting, which are subsequently saved in a Google Doc and stored in Google Drive for the user who initiated the recording.
