Available since September 1, Google Pics arrives as an AI-powered image generation and editing tool based on the Nano Banana model. It is used as a web application, integrates with Docs and Slides, and is set to join Drive in the coming weeks. The Google AI Pro, Ultra, and several Workspace editions provide access to the service.
Access, Offers, and Announced Integrations
Google Pics is accessible as a standalone application at pics.new and is directly integrated into Google Docs and Slides. Integration with Google Drive is expected in the coming weeks. Since September 1, the service has been open to a wide audience. For individuals, it is available to subscribers of Google AI Pro, Ultra, and Google AI Pro for Education. For businesses, it is available to Workspace customers on the Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus plans.
Prompt Generation, Advanced Edits, and 4K Export
Google Pics allows users to create an image via a prompt and import an existing visual, whether from a device, Google Drive, or Google Photos, for modification. The tool includes an object segmentation feature that enables users to select an element to move, resize, or alter without affecting the rest of the image. It also allows for the modification and translation of text within the image while maintaining the original font and formatting. From a single prompt, users can obtain multiple different versions and choose the one that suits them best. Real-time collaboration is possible on the same creation, and export is available in 2K or 4K resolution.

Launch Context and Positioning Against Graphic Suites
Google introduced Google Pics at its I/O conference in May, leveraging its Nano Banana image generation model. The tool is positioned as a competitor to Canva and Adobe Express, targeting digital professionals without graphic design training who seek a simple tool for producing visuals. Google Pics simplifies the process by allowing users to obtain a visual from a prompt without going through a design interface. However, it primarily focuses on generating and modifying images for marketing purposes, with limited flexibility, while Canva covers a broader range of graphic design uses.
