Google Rebrands CC as Family Assistant, US and 18+ Required

Google evolves CC into a collaborative domestic agent focused on family organization. Access remains limited to the United States, personal Gmail accounts, and adults. The service operates on an isolated cloud infrastructure and is opening up via invitations and a waiting list.

Limited Access for American Adults with Personal Gmail

CC is currently only accessible to users located in the United States, who have a personal Gmail account and are 18 years or older. The service cannot be associated with addresses provided by educational institutions, which excludes students with academic email accounts. By adhering to the age limit, pre-teens and teenagers cannot use it. Collaboration is capped at six members per household. Access is being rolled out gradually: newcomers can sign up for a waiting list, and current users must wait for an invitation email to update their accounts. Technically, the agent runs on an isolated cloud computer and relies on Gemini and the Antigravity agent system. In many institutions, students are already using Chromebooks and Google applications and receive numerous school communications via email.

Domestic Coordination and Execution of Family Tasks

CC automatically tracks important dates and tasks, then adds them to a shared calendar or a shared to-do list. The agent handles common operations on behalf of the household: filling out permission forms or registration PDFs, creating shopping lists related to school supplies, planning weekly meals, calculating travel times, and creating shared documents in Docs or Sheets. This new direction places family organization, daily preparation, and practical needs like shopping and meals at the heart of the service. When information is missing, CC requests clarifications and enriches its group memory for future interactions.

Selective Email Sharing and Dedicated Permissions

CC has its own Google account and a dedicated set of permissions to access the necessary data as part of the tasks shared by the family. Each member precisely chooses what they share, such as emails regarding school, clubs, birthday invitations, or medical appointments, either by forwarding to CC's address or through automated sharing. Sharing can be set once and for all by trusted senders, such as a school, a travel agency, a club, or a sports team. The agent also suggests new senders to add to these rules each week. Up to six people can contribute to the same space, and the group memory updates as exchanges occur.

From Daily Brief to Family Agent in an Emerging Market

CC was initially an agent connected to Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, and the web, sending a summary titled "Your Upcoming Day." In May, this function transitioned to the Gemini app under the name "Daily Brief." Google reports that user requests primarily focused on household management, from tracking school and sports activities to paying bills and meal preparation. In response, CC has been transformed into a family-centered agent, and a new version covering emails, calendars, chats, and tasks has been introduced. The product is also in a testing phase. Other platforms, such as Ollie or Fambot, already offer similar services aimed at parents and families. CC could also be used in extended families that include grandparents, caregivers, nannies, or adult children still living at home.
