Google Expands the Capabilities of Its AI Mode
Last Thursday, Google made an announcement that could transform the way users interact with its services. The tech giant revealed that its AI Mode, a conversational search feature, can now connect and interact directly with certain popular applications. Among the first applications to benefit from this integration are Instacart, Canva, and YouTube.
A Step Towards More Interactive AI
With this update, Google is no longer just providing answers to user inquiries. Now, the AI Mode can perform tasks within the applications that users frequently use. Google's goal is clear: to encourage users to turn to AI Mode for a variety of activities such as event planning or online shopping. This strategy also aims to enhance Google's competitiveness against rivals like ChatGPT from OpenAI and Claude from Anthropic, which also offer application integrations.
Concrete Use Cases
To illustrate this new feature, Google provided some practical examples. If you're preparing for a barbecue and using AI Mode to create a shopping list, you can now connect your Instacart account. This will allow you to add the necessary ingredients directly to your cart and complete your purchases via the Instacart app or website.
Similarly, if you're working on a creative project and need design inspiration, you can ask Canva to suggest a selection of templates. Another example given by Google is creating a playlist for a party, which you can instantly save on YouTube Music.
Gradual Rollout and Future Collaborations
This update is currently being rolled out to users located in the United States. Google has specified that it is collaborating with various partners and plans to extend support to other applications in the near future.
Continuous Enrichment of AI Mode
The recent announcement is part of Google's ongoing efforts to enrich its AI Mode. Earlier this year, during the Google I/O event, the company had already introduced the ability to connect third-party applications to the Gemini app to speed up the execution of certain tasks. Supported applications include Canva, OpenTable, Spark, Instacart, among others.
Since its launch at the beginning of 2025, Google has continually improved AI Mode by adding new features. Recently, it was announced that AI Mode can now check the availability of an item in a nearby store. Additionally, it is now possible to browse the web alongside AI Mode, allowing users to compare information and ask follow-up questions while maintaining the initial context of the search.
Towards Greater Personalization
Earlier this year, Google also introduced Personal Intelligence in AI Mode. This feature allows the AI to access users' Gmail and Google Photos, providing more personalized responses tailored to the specific needs of each user.
