Google Tests AI Gemini Assistants on Android
According to an article from Android Authority, Google may offer a powerful productivity feature based on Gemini to Android smartphone users. By digging into the APK file of a version of the Google app, the site reportedly found elements of a new feature that would allow users to create new AI agents. Essentially, these would be specialized versions of Gemini focused on specific functions.
Google could enable users to save time by delegating complex tasks to five types of agents:
- An AI agent “family coordinator” to help the user plan household chores, coordinate tasks, or share events with family.
- An AI agent “tutor” specialized in learning.
- A “group organizer” agent that could arrange outings.
- A “marketing agent” for social media posts, newsletters, etc.
- A financial agent that could, for example, help the user track their expenses.
A Feature That Could Be Available to Everyone
For now, caution is advised, as no announcement has yet been made by Google. However, as noted by Android Authority, Google already allows users of its productivity offerings Google Workspace and Enterprise to create custom AI agents to automate tasks using Gemini on the web.
And, since the new feature discovered on Android is somewhat different, Android Authority believes it may not be limited to users of Google Workspace and Enterprise offerings. It is even possible that the feature could be offered to users of the free version of Gemini. But for now, these are just speculations, and nothing is confirmed.
In any case, these specialized agents could allow Google to make its Gemini AI even more popular among the general public, as it already benefits significantly from its integration with the Android operating system.
Google Considering Offering Specialized AI Agents on Android
These agents could assist users with specific tasks, such as managing household chores, organizing outings, or handling social media posts. So far, no official announcement has been made, but Android Authority indicates that it is possible this new feature could be offered for free.
