What if traditional keyword searches on Google are losing ground? A study conducted by Eskimoz in collaboration with Ipsos reveals that an increasing number of French people are turning to conversational tools for their searches. This phenomenon, which could transform our digital habits, is highlighted by revealing statistics.
Google remains the primary search engine for 85% of the French respondents across all age groups. However, this figure has not changed since 2025, unlike the use of artificial intelligences (AI). Indeed, 83% of those surveyed are now familiar with AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini, representing a 17% increase compared to 2025. This rapid growth reflects a growing interest in these technologies.
AI, the New Reflex of the Young
Young adults are the most inclined to adopt these new technologies. Among those aged 18-34, 88% are aware of AI, and 52% use it daily. In comparison, among those aged 55-75, 77% are familiar with these tools, but their usage remains less frequent. It is primarily the youth who are integrating AI into their daily lives, thereby changing their search habits.
A Marked Enthusiasm in the Paris Region
The study also highlights a geographical difference in the adoption of AI. In the Paris region, 43% of respondents use these technologies, compared to only 24% in the provinces. This disparity is also reflected in the usage of Google, which stands at 66% in Paris versus 75% in other regions. Parisians appear to be more inclined to adopt these new tools.
A Transition Underway
Although Google remains overwhelmingly dominant, the rise of chatbots is gradually altering our habits. Today, 28% of young people use AI to obtain information, and 14% even use an AI agent daily. A few years ago, during a lively discussion, the reflex was to open Google or Wikipedia. Now, it consists of directly querying Gemini or another chatbot.
The French Exception
For now, France continues to use "old" Google, unlike other countries where Gemini search is already deployed. AIs are omnipresent, influencing our habits and brand communication. It remains to be seen whether this usage will become sustainable or if the AI bubble will eventually burst in the coming years.
