Gradium, the Parisian startup that impresses Nvidia with a record fundraising
Gradium, an innovative company based in Paris specializing in voice artificial intelligence, recently announced that it has raised an impressive total of $100 million in its seed funding round. This amount was achieved by opening its funding round to new investors, including the tech giant Nvidia. This announcement was made on Thursday, marking a crucial milestone for the young company.
Strategic expansion to Silicon Valley
With this funding, Gradium plans to open a new office in the Bay Area of California. This move aims to attract local talent, thereby strengthening its position in the global AI ecosystem. Paris, already a nerve center for AI innovation in Europe, offers Gradium a strategic location close to major companies like Anthropic, Google, Meta, and OpenAI. This proximity is crucial for startups looking to establish themselves in the competitive field of artificial intelligence.
Promising beginnings with prestigious support
Launched quietly last December, Gradium had already managed to raise $70 million thanks to a group of prestigious investors. Among them are FirstMark Capital, Eurazeo, DST Global Partners, as well as influential figures like Eric Schmidt and the French telecommunications magnate Xavier Niel. This financial and strategic support has allowed Gradium to quickly position itself as a major player in the voice AI sector.
Strong roots and recognized expertise
Gradium was born from the French artificial intelligence laboratory Kyutai, which also benefits from the support of Xavier Niel. The startup and the laboratory were co-founded by Neil Zeghidour, a renowned researcher who previously worked for prestigious entities such as Google Brain, DeepMind, and Facebook. This expertise has enabled Gradium to develop innovative audio models capable of providing voices with ultra-low latency, making interactions with AI agents almost instantaneous.
Fierce competition but promising opportunities
Despite its advancements, Gradium faces intense competition in the voice AI sector. Startups like ElevenLabs, which reached a valuation of $11 billion in February, as well as tech giants like Google with its Gemini model, represent significant challenges. Nevertheless, Gradium appears well-positioned for growth, having already attracted major clients, including the French automotive manufacturer Renault. This positive momentum could well enable Gradium to establish itself as a leader in the voice AI industry.
