Gradium and Nvidia: A Strategic Partnership for Voice AI

Gradium, a French startup specializing in voice artificial intelligence, has recently announced a significant extension of its initial funding. This capital increase, which brings the total to over $100 million, is facilitated by the entry of new investors, including Nvidia, a major player in the field of AI semiconductor technology. This fundraising allows Gradium to strategically establish itself in Silicon Valley, a hub for technological innovations.

Seven months after its official launch, Gradium continues to grow rapidly. The company has managed to surpass the $100 million funding mark thanks to an extension of its initial funding round. Although the exact amount of this extension has not been disclosed, it is clear that the addition of new investors, particularly Nvidia, has played a crucial role. For reference, Gradium's seed round last December amounted to $70 million, implying that the current extension represents at least an additional $30 million.

Development of Voice AI Models

Founded by Neil Zeghidour, Laurent Mazaré, Olivier Teboul, and Alexandre Défossez, Gradium focuses on creating advanced audio language models. These models are designed to enable natural and expressive voice interactions with minimal latency and are capable of performing a variety of voice tasks. Gradium originates from the Kyutai laboratory, and its goal is to push the boundaries of voice AI.

Since the beginning of the year, Gradium has expanded its technological portfolio to include solutions in speech synthesis, voice recognition, translation, and developer tools. Among the notable innovations are a new generation of its real-time "text-to-speech" model, Gradium Translate for low-latency "speech-to-speech" translation, Phonon for edge devices, and GradBot, an open-source framework for quickly creating voice agents.

Gradium has also collaborated with the "Invincible Voice" project from Kyutai and Olivier Goy to develop a voice AI aimed at individuals who have lost the ability to speak, allowing them to regain a voice and natural interactions.

Expansion into Silicon Valley

With the extension of its funding, Gradium plans to develop new voice AI models and accelerate its international growth. Opening an office in the San Francisco Bay Area is a strategic step to strengthen its presence in an environment where innovation in artificial intelligence is thriving.
