The observability publisher claims to have given up nearly $100 million in potential revenue to help its clients reduce AI-related costs. The AI solutions launched by the company in July are already seeing strong usage, with several hundred companies monitoring their agents and over 18,000 organizations using Grafana Assistant. In this context, Grafana also reports an annual recurring revenue exceeding $600 million and 10,000 customers.
Grafana Takes a Hit of Nearly $100M to Reduce Costs
Raj Dutt specifies that the adaptive telemetry strategy adopted by Grafana has resulted in a loss of about $100 million in potential revenue for the company. At the same time, Grafana states that it is supporting its clients in lowering their bills by reducing the volume of billable data. This shift comes as AI generates higher observability bills by producing more data and incidents to track. Traditional monitoring primarily targeted outages and slowdowns, whereas, according to Raj Dutt, AI agents can, for example, recommend a competitor or create security risks. He notes that this choice improves revenue quality, with clients paying more based on their actual usage. He adds that the majority of Grafana Assistant users are, in fact, paying customers.
Six AI Features Launched in July and Measured Adoption in Volume
Grafana launched six new AI features in July. The publisher claims that hundreds of clients are already using Agent Observability to track the speed and reliability of AI agents. More than 18,000 organizations, including Alter Domus and Deutsche Telekom, are using Grafana Assistant, presented as an AI tool that helps engineers monitor and resolve issues. Grafana further asserts that Grafana Assistant is the fastest-growing product in its history.
$600M in ARR, 10,000 Customers, and at Least 50% Growth
Grafana reports an annual recurring revenue exceeding $600 million and claims 10,000 customers worldwide. This figure represents an increase of at least 50% compared to the $400 million recorded in September. The 12-year-old company focuses on monitoring and problem resolution within software systems. Raj Dutt suggests that AI is a major growth accelerator, with Grafana seeing more business from AI companies and an increase in the usage of its AI offerings among existing clients.
AI Production: Cost, Governance, and Reliability Issues
Raj Dutt believes that large-scale AI deployment creates new technical needs and that companies are moving from experimentation to real usage. Organizations have invested billions, but scaling remains slower and more expensive, with challenges related to costs, security, and reliability. According to him, the conversation now revolves around the cost, proper governance, performance, and reliability of AI systems in production. In this market, Grafana faces competition from Datadog. Its CEO and co-founder, Olivier Pomel, indicates that clients are increasingly deploying AI and using Datadog to monitor and secure it.
