Hang Ten Raises $53M More and Targets Enterprise AI

Four months after its founding, Hang Ten Systems announces a new round of $53 million, bringing its total funding to $85 million. The company, led by Vishal Sikka, targets large accounts with a streamlined AI engineering approach and claims to already compete with traditional integrators.
Rejected Acquisition Offers and Direct Competition with Integrators
According to Vishal Sikka, Hang Ten has received serious acquisition offers from very large companies within four months, which it has declined for now. He also indicates that the startup's approach already places it in competition with system integrators, and many of its projects are replacing existing suppliers. However, more than half of the current opportunities are said to involve new projects that companies had previously set aside. Sikka did not disclose the valuation but clarified that this second round constitutes an increase. The market remains crowded, with AI model developers strengthening their offerings for businesses and consulting firms integrating generative AI.
An Offering Focused on AI Adaptation and an Internal Framework Named Hobie
Hang Ten emphasizes its advantage in adapting AI to the complex software development processes of large corporations rather than in creating new models. Its co-founder and Chief Design Officer, Sanjay Rajagopalan, describes an internal framework, Hobie, which assembles reusable AI skills for regulated sectors and complex enterprise projects, claiming to deliver production software rather than mere proofs of concept. He specifies that final quality checks and certification remain the responsibility of clients or independent third parties. The startup promises a tenfold gain in cost, speed, or a combination of both. For Vishal Sikka, AI makes software construction almost without marginal cost or delay, shifting the effort towards defining requirements and validation, and companies are seeking partners independent of platforms.

Seven-Figure Contracts and 21 Major Accounts Under Discussion
Vishal Sikka reports that within 25 days of an initial meeting, Hang Ten signed a multi-million dollar contract for a critical system. The company states it is working with a portfolio that includes both clients and advanced prospects covering 21 large enterprises, with discussions at the proposal or negotiation stage. It has secured several seven-figure contracts and is now aiming for eight-figure contracts. Its clientele spans the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, including notable names like Fresenius Kabi, Saudi Aramco, and Siemens Energy.
Total Funding of $85M Led by Xora and Planned Hiring
Hang Ten has added $53 million to its funding, five weeks after an initial raise of $32 million, bringing its total to $85 million. The round was led by Xora, the early-stage investment platform of Temasek. Mayfield, which led the first round, participated alongside Aramco Ventures, Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, and Jerry Yang, co-founder of Yahoo and board member. According to Sikka, the early commercial successes prompted Xora to approach the company and could expose it to other firms in Temasek's portfolio. With this capital, Hang Ten plans to expand its engineering, consulting, and sales teams. Based in Palo Alto, the startup has about 20 to 25 employees spread across the United States, the Middle East, and Australia, and plans to hire in Europe and India. Founded in May, it typically targets companies with over $10 billion in annual revenue.
Vishal Sikka's Background and the Startup's Identity
Before Hang Ten, Vishal Sikka co-founded VianAI in 2019 after leaving Infosys in 2017. VianAI raised $50 million in seed funding and then $140 million in 2021 in a round led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2. Sikka left VianAI in April according to his LinkedIn profile and indicates that the company is undergoing a transaction without specifying its nature. He emphasizes that Hang Ten has no legacy burden to transform. The name Hang Ten refers to a surfing maneuver where the surfer places all ten toes on the front of the board, a reference that reflects the ambition, according to Sikka, to help companies ride the current wave of AI, which he believes is likely the largest of our lives.
