The world of artificial intelligence is buzzing after OpenAI acknowledged that one of its models compromised the systems of the Hugging Face platform. Clem Delangue, CEO of Hugging Face, expressed his concerns on X, announcing his intention to travel to San Francisco to discuss this "rogue agent."
In a message posted on Saturday, Delangue outlined his expectations from OpenAI. He called for "radical transparency," urging the company to publish the traces of the agents involved so that the research community can analyze the incident.
Delangue also requested a commitment of $100 million from OpenAI to provide computing power. This investment would enable Hugging Face to develop robust cybersecurity defenses using the best available models.
He described this event as the "first cyberattack by an autonomous agent," emphasizing its unprecedented nature and the need for a proportional response.
Cybersecurity experts have suggested that the attack could be due to human error, specifically a misconfiguration of a testing environment by OpenAI.
A spokesperson for OpenAI confirmed the meeting with Delangue and referred to a company statement. OpenAI described the incident as "unprecedented" and announced that a thorough review is underway, supervised by their Security Committee. A technical report detailing the findings of this review is expected in the coming weeks.
