Lille, the Epicenter of AI in Europe
Lille is set to host a major event in the field of artificial intelligence, titled “AI with Us,” which will take place at the EuraTechnologies incubator. This event will bring together nearly 1,000 participants and around fifty speakers to discuss the practical applications of AI.
This summit comes at a time when billions of euros have been announced for the development of mega data centers in the Hauts-de-France region. The goal is to shift from discussions about infrastructure to the tangible impacts of AI on society, particularly in daily life, employment, and public services.
A Diverse Program to Democratize AI
The summit's program includes plenary sessions, discussions with various stakeholders such as parents, teachers, and caregivers, as well as demonstrations and feedback sessions. Jean-Paul Mulot, regional advisor for international relations, emphasizes that AI should not be seen as reserved solely for tech professions.
The discussions will cover a variety of topics including industry, health, education, training, culture, European digital sovereignty, ethics, and defense. The aim is to showcase how investments in Hauts-de-France can transform these sectors.
SoftBank and Colossal Investments
During the Choose France summit in early June, the Japanese group SoftBank announced an initial investment of 45 billion euros for the construction of three massive data centers in Hauts-de-France by 2031. These projects aim to make the region a European hub for artificial intelligence.
Anne Bouverot, co-chair of the National Council for Artificial Intelligence, highlights that since the Paris summit in 2025, AI has continued to develop and spread widely. She stresses the importance of making these advancements more pragmatic and less theoretical.
Influential Figures in Attendance
Among the expected personalities are Henna Virkkunen, Vice-President of the European Commission for Digital, Octave Klaba, CEO of OVHcloud, Alexia Laroche-Joubert, General Director of Banijay France, and Thibaut Guilluy, General Director of France Travail.
The summit will conclude with a video address from French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Green elected officials from the region are also expected to participate in the discussions, particularly on issues related to the energy consumption of data centers and the anticipated job creation.
