Instinct Gives Its AI a Dedicated Email Address

Instinct assigns a unique email address to each user so that the agent can create and manage accounts or contact third parties without going through the personal inbox. The company, valued at $2.5 billion, presents this feature as a step towards greater autonomy, following partnerships with 1Password, location services, and Stripe. Businesses may see this as a loss of visibility on the interlocutor, while some clients could benefit from increased privacy.
Payments and Location Already Expand the Scope
Instinct partnered with Stripe in August to facilitate payments. Thanks to this integration, the agent can book trips, classes, appointments, and make purchases on behalf of the user. Additionally, a new location-sharing feature allows Instinct to know the user's current position to find nearby shops or restaurants, or to map routes. Users can also query their location history, for example, to remember where they parked their car or recall a restaurant visited the previous month. The introduction of the dedicated email address is part of this series of updates aimed at enhancing the assistant's capabilities.
A Dedicated Email Address for End-to-End Task Execution
Instinct is rolling out a feature that assigns each user an Instinct email address, with the company stating that starting today, each agent will have its own address. According to Noah Shinn, the goal is to enable the agent to handle account sign-ups and management for tasks requiring an email. Specifically, Instinct can use this address to contact a restaurant regarding a specific request, inquire about availability from a business, or sign up for a service necessary to complete a task. The agent seeks the user's input when necessary but acts autonomously in other cases.

Use Cases: Transfers, Returns, and Thread Tracking
Noah Shinn suggests that users can forward emails to Instinct when information is needed to complete a task. For example, to manage a product return, the user can send their order confirmation to Instinct's address. The agent can then contact support, provide the order details, ask whether a return or replacement is needed, and then send the user the return label to print. The Instinct email address can also be added to group discussions to track exchanges or receive a long thread on which the user wishes to ask questions regarding decisions or tasks to be performed.
Expected Effects and Access to the Service
The dedicated email address could make the experience smoother by preventing users from having to log in or provide their credentials, aligning with the recent partnership with 1Password to simplify access to existing accounts. For businesses, the fact that an AI manages the account may complicate the identification of the real interlocutor. Some clients might appreciate not having to share their email address or phone number for one-off tasks. Instinct notes that it has reserved certain addresses for its early users, while others can claim theirs at mail.instinct.com. The company boasts a valuation of $2.5 billion. According to its founder Noah Shinn, these addresses give the agent the ability to create and manage its own accounts without cluttering the user's inbox.
