Intel Attracts Attention from Google and Nvidia
In light of TSMC's struggles to meet the growing demand for AI chips, Google and Nvidia are turning to Intel as an alternative. According to a report from The Information, Google has already placed an order for over three million AI chips (TPUs) from Intel, with a deadline set for 2028.
Nvidia, for its part, is currently testing Intel's manufacturing technology for its upcoming GPU architecture, named Feynman. However, no official orders have been confirmed to date.
SK Hynix and Intel's Packaging
Memory manufacturer SK Hynix is also assessing the compatibility of its chips with the packaging offered by Intel. An agreement with SK Hynix could bolster Intel's credibility as a viable supplier against TSMC, potentially attracting other chip designers.
A Rare Opportunity for Intel
Intel's foundry division has faced financial difficulties and delays in recent years. However, the capacity crisis at TSMC presents Intel with a unique opportunity to reposition itself in the market. TSMC's CEO, C.C. Wei, recently stated that the industry will not be able to meet global demand for AI chips for several years.
Following these developments, Intel's stock has seen an increase of over ten percent.
