The next update of iOS, iOS 27, could transform the user experience on the iPhone by making the Camera app much more customizable. According to a report by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple is working on a redesign of the app that will allow users to choose which camera tools appear on the screen and where they are located. Controls for flash, exposure, timer, and resolution will be adjustable according to individual preferences, thus providing a more tailored interface to meet personal needs.
This customization of the Camera app is part of a broader redesign of iOS 27, which may also include enhancements for Siri. Apple is looking to transform Siri into a more interactive AI agent, capable of conducting text conversations and acting across different applications. This new version of Siri could be integrated into the Dynamic Island, introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro, and may also include a standalone app to manage past conversations and new requests.
A More Customizable Camera App
The Camera app in iOS 27 is expected to retain its default controls but offer the option to switch to more advanced options or fully customize the interface. Each capture mode could have its own controls, referred to as "widgets," for features like depth of field and exposure. These widgets would be small camera controls that could be placed at the top of the interface, making access to the most used tools easier.
Additionally, a new Siri mode could be introduced in the Camera app, utilizing Apple’s Visual Intelligence features to identify objects, translate text, or provide information about what is captured by the camera.
The Camera app could also move the button that reveals all available controls from the top right corner of the camera interface to a new location near the shutter button. This would allow for a more intuitive and quicker use of the camera's advanced features.
Siri Could Look and Act More Like a Chatbot
The redesign of Siri in iOS 27 could bring it closer to popular AI chat applications, allowing it to use personal data and interact more smoothly with users. Siri could appear as an animation in the Dynamic Island and include a new "Search or Ask" bar to manage Siri requests, as well as third-party AI options like ChatGPT and Google Gemini.
Bloomberg also reports that Apple may launch a standalone Siri app, where users could review past conversations and enter new requests via a "Ask Siri" bar.
Other Reported Changes in iOS 27
In addition to the changes to the Camera and Siri, iOS 27 could include design updates for several applications. Safari may benefit from a new start page with tabs for favorites, bookmarks, reading list, and history, offering a more intuitive and faster navigation experience.
The Weather app could add a Conditions panel for a quick view of weather data, such as rain and wind, without needing to navigate to another page. The Image Playground app is also expected to be improved with a cleaner interface and more realistic image templates.
At the system level, adjustments to the bottom navigation bars in apps like Podcasts and Music are planned, along with undo and redo controls for home screen customization. The iPhone keyboard could also benefit from a new animation, making the user experience even smoother.
Although Apple has not yet officially announced iOS 27, this information provides insight into the potential innovations the company may present at WWDC26, scheduled for June 8-12. These changes aim to offer a more flexible and personalized iPhone interface, catering to the diverse needs of users.
