Jack Dorsey Introduces Buzz, a Slack Rival for the Professional World

Jack Dorsey, known for co-founding Twitter and Block, has recently unveiled a new application called Buzz. This group chat platform is designed for the professional sector and positions itself as a direct competitor to Slack and GitHub. Buzz stands out for its ability to integrate both human users and their artificial intelligence agents into common discussions.

Dorsey shared on X that Buzz is designed to be "model-agnostic, decentralized, self-sovereign, and open source." This project is not just a personal initiative by Dorsey. In fact, Buzz has been developed by Block, Dorsey's company, which is also behind products like Square, Cash App, Afterpay, and Tidal.

Competition in the AI Solutions Space for Enterprises

Jack Dorsey is not the only one exploring alternatives or native AI additions for Slack. Georgios Konstantopoulos, partner at Paradigm and CTO, recently introduced a similar open-source product named Centaur. This product is described as a "virtual employee" that can operate either within Slack or via an API.

• "There is enormous potential to enhance the agents integrated into Slack, which can do much more than just code for teams. In a corporate context, this often involves self-hosting for security and control reasons, and allowing users to leverage it within Slack," Konstantopoulos stated on X.

For emerging startups adopting AI agents that are not yet entrenched in the Slack ecosystem, Buzz (or its alternatives) could represent an interesting option to explore. However, Buzz acknowledges that it is still in its "early stages," meaning it might be premature to fully migrate a team to this new platform.

Availability and Accessibility of Buzz

The free desktop application of Buzz is now available for macOS, Windows, and Linux systems. Additionally, the source code of the application has been made available on GitHub, allowing users and developers to explore and adapt it according to their needs.
