Karpathy Creates HackerTube in a Weekend with Claude

Andrej Karpathy, co-founder of OpenAI and currently a researcher at Anthropic, has launched two video curation sites built with the help of Claude. He describes a workflow where the agent codes, processes data, and deploys, leaving little room for manual steps and reducing timelines to just a few hours.
Embracing Automation and Reducing Interventions
Andrej Karpathy explains that he entrusted Claude Code with nearly all tasks, from data analysis to server configuration. On his part, he limited himself to requesting a Google Cloud API key, reserving a server, and acquiring the domain name. He notes that projects that previously took several weeks can now be completed in just a few hours.

Processing 43 Million Comments Across 6,454 Videos
For HackerTube, Claude filtered 43 million comments from 20 years of Hacker News, then transformed them into 6,454 videos that continue to be recommended on the platform. Karpathy claims on X that the viewing experience is significantly better than YouTube's recommendations.
Two Sites Launched, One Over a Weekend and the Other in 3 Minutes
Karpathy created HackerTube over a weekend using Claude's Opus 5.5 model. The site requires no authentication, features a single intermediate image instead of optimized thumbnails, and retains state locally in the browser. Shortly after, he built TristanTube in a single session with Claude Code in just 3 minutes, using a list of YouTube channels provided by Tristan Hume, resulting in a total of 47,000 videos. Karpathy is a co-founder of OpenAI and is currently working as a researcher at Anthropic AI.
