KPMG and Microsoft: Generative AI Takes Hold in Businesses

KPMG and Microsoft have announced a significant expansion of their global partnership, aimed at integrating large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) agents into businesses. This development revolves around two major initiatives: the implementation of Microsoft 365 Copilot for all 276,000 KPMG employees and the use of Microsoft Agent 365 to manage and secure these AI agents.

After several years of pilot projects, the two giants are looking to industrialize the use of AI agents in large organizations. The goal is to move beyond mere experimentation and to sustainably integrate these technologies into business processes while ensuring rigorous oversight.

Microsoft Agent 365: Enhanced Supervision

The partnership between KPMG and Microsoft, which has lasted over ten years, is now focused on AI agents. KPMG will adopt Microsoft Agent 365 to oversee the deployment and updating of AI agents within its global organization. This technology is part of its Trusted AI framework, ensuring responsible and secure use of AI.

The challenge is to enable KPMG's clients to deploy their own AI agents in a controlled environment. Governance becomes crucial, as the proliferation of use cases requires visibility into active agents, the data used, and the decisions made.

Global Expansion of Microsoft 365 Copilot at KPMG

The agreement also includes the global expansion of Microsoft 365 Copilot, already used by KPMG, to all its professionals across 138 countries. This rollout aims to standardize the use of AI in audit, tax, and consulting activities, thereby improving the quality and speed of services.

The integration of Copilot is accompanied by a broader technological transformation centered on KPMG Workbench, a platform developed on Microsoft Azure AI Foundry. In the audit field, these capabilities will be integrated into KPMG Clara to enhance real-time analysis and improve risk detection.

Governance and Security: Essential Priorities

While many organizations have conducted isolated experiments with generative AI, scaling up presents complex challenges such as regulatory compliance and data security. KPMG and Microsoft aim to combine the automation of AI agents with robust governance mechanisms.

Clients like Integra LifeSciences and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) are already using these technologies to accelerate their digital transformation. In the enterprise AI market, the crucial question now is how companies will govern these agents at scale.
