Meta has announced the global rollout of its artificial intelligence agent for WhatsApp Business, now named Meta Business Agent. This launch follows nearly two years of intensive testing in countries like India and Mexico, where the agent has been used to enhance customer support.
Meta's AI agent is designed to perform various tasks, such as answering customer questions, recommending products, scheduling appointments, qualifying sales leads, and redirecting queries to a human when necessary. In addition to WhatsApp, this tool will also be available in Instagram direct messages.
Meta is currently experimenting with a feature that allows the agent to provide daily summaries of discussions and insights, tested on WhatsApp Business, Instagram Pro, Messenger, and Meta Business Suite. The company is also working on adding new capabilities, such as conducting market research, highlighting product features, managing user calendars, and extracting competitive insights.
At the same time, Meta is developing a platform to enable large businesses to create custom agents that can be integrated with systems like Shopify, Zendesk, and Shopee. For the use of this AI agent, Meta plans to implement billing included in certain tiers of the WhatsApp Business Premium subscription, based on the number of tokens used by large enterprises.
