Moritz Raises $9M for Innovative AI Law Firm

The company Moritz, born from Y Combinator's spring accelerator program, recently raised $9 million in just four days. This rapid funding was backed by major players such as 20VC, the Urban Innovation Fund, and 20 founders of unicorns, including those from Reddit, Instacart, Dropbox, Hugging Face, and Silo AI.

Unlike other legal startups like Legora and Harvey, Moritz does not simply sell its services to law firms. According to co-founder Pamir Ehsas, the goal is to create a law firm entirely powered by AI. Ehsas emphasizes that "Legora's mission is to make every lawyer in the world an AI native," but he believes that existing firms are too slow to adopt AI effectively. He adds, "We are building the largest law firm in the world from scratch, which is why we are not selling our AI tools to anyone."

AI-powered roll-ups, where technology creators own and directly operate service businesses, represent a promising strategy for capturing value, according to renowned venture capital investors like General Catalyst.

Since its launch in 2026, Moritz has already supported over 100 companies, handling transactions totaling more than $2 billion across Europe, the United States, and Australia. The company stands out with an average response time of just four hours.

A New Era for Law Firms

Moritz aims to become a large law firm where AI would handle 80% of the work, including client intake and initial drafting. The 50 contracted lawyers at Moritz would then finalize the work. The company focuses on commercial, corporate, and employment law, while avoiding litigation, immigration, and taxation.

The company has established its headquarters in the United States, with a seven-person operations and engineering team. Ehsas explains that "the market is so small, there aren't many talents to choose from. And even the clients here are incredibly slow to act. So for us, it made more sense to move to San Francisco."

Moritz has also opened an office in the UK and plans to expand its services to other European countries, including Spain, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Italy, France, and Sweden. According to Ehsas, Moritz's strategy is to collaborate with large companies to build the necessary infrastructure before expanding to other businesses in the same countries.
