Google and Samsung have recently announced a significant advancement for their devices with Gemini: task automation. This new feature, initially available for food delivery and ridesharing applications, allows Gemini to manage actions such as ordering a meal or booking transportation, all from simple instructions. Gemini utilizes certain apps in a virtual window to accomplish these tasks.

The feature, which has just been rolled out in beta, was not yet active during the initial tests of the S26 Ultra. However, it is now accessible, and it is surprising to see a phone operate autonomously.

Simplified and Controlled Interactions

During an initial test, a simple request was made: order an Uber to the airport. Gemini asked for clarification on the airport in question, then proceeded to add the destination while skipping the step of selecting the airline, deemed irrelevant in this context. The system paused before the final confirmation, asking the user to verify the details before validating the order.

Users can follow Gemini's steps in real-time and regain control or stop the automation at any time, ensuring total flexibility.

More Complex Challenges for Gemini

A more complex request, such as ordering a coffee and a croissant, required additional interaction. Gemini took some time to browse the drink options at Starbucks but ultimately found the flat white. Regarding the croissant, Gemini took the initiative to order it warmed, without user intervention, demonstrating impressive anticipatory capabilities.

While further testing is planned to fully explore this feature, the initial results show that task automation by Gemini is functioning effectively, marking an important milestone in the evolution of AI assistants.
