Canva Unveils Its New AI 2.0 at the Canva Create Event
On Thursday, April 16, 2026, during the Canva Create event in Los Angeles, Canva unveiled major updates to its visual communication platform. Among the key announcements was the introduction of Canva AI 2.0, a significant upgrade to its intelligent assistant launched a year earlier. This overhaul aims to propel Canva into what the company calls the "agentic era," facilitating the transition from idea to execution without leaving the tool.
A Rethought Assistant to Transform Design
The update to Canva AI 2.0 introduces several new features that enhance the user experience. Among these, a conversational design interface now allows users to generate complete designs from simple text or voice requests. These creations align with the brand's visual identity, adhering to the layout and structure preferences set by the user.
Another major innovation is the persistent memory of the assistant. This feature enables the AI to adapt to the user's work habits by gradually incorporating their preferences. The assistant can thus draw on previous creations or reference documents such as style guides to refine its suggestions.
Targeted editing is also a notable advancement. It offers the ability to modify specific elements of a design without having to regenerate everything. Each component created by the AI is individually manipulable, allowing for precise adjustments like changing a title or font.
Finally, agentic orchestration allows the AI to mobilize all available tools to transform an intention into a finalized project. Whether starting from a simple idea or a detailed brief, the assistant can generate all necessary formats, ready to be refined or published.
Advanced Integration to Automate Tasks
Canva AI 2.0 does not just enhance design creation. The assistant now integrates with everyday tools such as Slack, Zoom, HubSpot, Gmail, Notion, and Google Drive. This connectivity allows the AI to leverage conversations and content from these platforms to create tailored designs or documents.
Task automation is another dimension of this update. The AI can execute scheduled tasks in the background, even without an internet connection. For example, it can regularly generate visuals for social media or prepare briefs ahead of a meeting.
The assistant is also capable of gathering online data to integrate directly into presentations or market studies, ensuring that the information used is always up to date.
Smart Personalization is a feature that ensures each design remains true to the brand's identity. By connecting its data or describing its needs, the user sees their fonts, colors, and styles automatically applied to their creations.
Gradual Rollout of New Features
The features announced during the event will be gradually made available to users in the weeks following April 16. Canva has planned early access for the first million users who will discover the overhaul via the platform's homepage.
