Beijing Blocks Meta's Acquisition of Manus
China has made a firm decision to prohibit Meta Platforms from acquiring the artificial intelligence startup Manus. This transaction, valued at $2 billion, or approximately €1.7 billion, was halted by the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission. The stated goal is to prevent the transfer of sensitive technologies to the United States.
This intervention comes at a time when the deal was already well advanced, with talent integrations and capital already disbursed. It marks a tightening of Chinese policy, which now emphasizes the origin of founders and technologies rather than the legal location of companies. This decision is set against a backdrop of increasing rivalry with Washington, just weeks before a meeting between Xi Jinping and Donald Trump.
Beyond the Manus case, Beijing aims to limit American capital and players' access to its AI ecosystem, even if it means undermining the historical funding mechanisms of the sector.
Cyera Strengthens Its AI Security with the Acquisition of Ryft
In the field of cybersecurity, Cyera has announced the acquisition of the Israeli startup Ryft. Specializing in automated and secure data management for AI systems, Ryft was acquired for an estimated amount between €92 million and €120 million. Founded in 2024, Ryft offers a platform that analyzes and manages real-time data access, whether by humans or autonomous agents.
The Ryft team, consisting of about 15 people, will join Cyera, with its CEO Yossi Reitblat leading the AI security division. This acquisition aligns with Cyera's strategy to enhance the security of AI-related uses in a context of strong growth. Cyera, valued at €7.6 billion after raising €340 million, continues to expand its influence through build-up operations.
