Firefox recently launched its version 150, bringing significant improvements to existing features and fixing a record number of 271 security vulnerabilities. This update, available since Tuesday, enhances the browser's security while optimizing practical tools for users.
Feature Enhancements
Among the new features, the split view, initially introduced in March, has been refined. Users can now open a link in split view with a simple right-click, making it easier to navigate between two web pages side by side. Additionally, it is possible to search among open tabs and rearrange the order of pages.
Tab sharing has also been simplified. Users can now select multiple tabs, right-click, and choose the "Share" option to copy the desired links. These links, when pasted into other applications, include the page title and URL.
Firefox 150 also introduces real-time translations. By typing "about:translations" in the address bar, users can access a translation page similar to Google Translate, allowing them to copy, paste, and translate text into different languages.
Finally, PDF editing is now possible directly within the browser. The built-in editor allows users to rearrange, copy, paste, delete, and export individual pages from a PDF file.
Security Fixes
The update stands out for fixing 271 security flaws, an impressive figure compared to previous updates. These vulnerabilities, classified as high, medium, and low severity, were identified using a preliminary version of the Claude Mythos Preview AI model from Anthropic.
Since February, Mozilla has integrated advanced AI models to enhance Firefox's security. The Opus 4.6 model from Anthropic had already helped fix 22 bugs in version 148. With Claude Mythos, identifying vulnerabilities has become faster and more efficient, covering all categories of potential vulnerabilities.
This technological advancement is not isolated. Other tech giants, such as Apple, Google, and Microsoft, are also collaborating with Claude Mythos as part of Project Glasswing. AI could thus become an essential tool for strengthening cybersecurity and protecting users against potential threats.
