Rocket 1.0: A New Era for Strategic Consulting

The Indian startup Rocket, based in Surat, has recently unveiled its new platform, Rocket 1.0, which promises to revolutionize the world of strategic consulting. By focusing on the phase prior to code development, Rocket 1.0 helps companies determine what to build using artificial intelligence.

Launched on Tuesday, this platform integrates research, product building, and competitive intelligence into a single workflow. It produces detailed strategy documents, including crucial elements such as pricing, unit economics, and go-to-market recommendations.

With the proliferation of AI-powered coding tools like Cursor, Replit, and Lovable, as well as features like Claude Code and Codex, code creation has become more accessible and faster. However, Rocket's co-founder and CEO, Vishal Virani, emphasizes that the real opportunity lies in deciding what to build, an aspect often overlooked. He asserts that running a business fundamentally differs from merely creating a codebase.

An Affordable Alternative to Traditional Consulting

With subscriptions ranging from $25 to $350 per month, Rocket offers an affordable alternative to traditional consulting services, which are often expensive. The $250 plan allows for the generation of two to three "McKinsey-style" research reports alongside product builds, providing a cost-effective solution for companies looking to optimize their product strategies.

Rocket 1.0 does not just produce product specification documents. It also tracks competitors, monitoring changes on their websites and traffic trends. To do this, it relies on over 1,000 data sources, including Meta's advertising libraries, the Similarweb API, and its own crawlers.

TechCrunch briefly tested the platform before its launch, finding that it generated product specification documents in PDF format from simple instructions. These documents resemble consulting-style reports more than intuitive coding tools or chatbots, which primarily focus on features and execution.

However, some analyses appeared to be synthesized from existing data, combining known pricing models, user behaviors, and competitive insights, rather than being based on independently verifiable information. This suggests that users may still need to validate the results before making business decisions. Virani stated that the platform can offer human support when users encounter issues.

Rapid Growth and Strong Financial Backing

Since a funding round in September, where it raised $15 million from Accel, Salesforce Ventures, and Together Fund, Rocket has experienced exponential growth. The startup has grown from 400,000 to over 1.5 million users across 180 countries. It boasts an average annual revenue per user of about $4,000, although it did not specify the exact number of paying customers.

With a team of 57 employees and operations in Palo Alto, Rocket continues to grow, showing gross margins above 50%. Approximately 20 to 30% of its clients are small and medium-sized enterprises, highlighting the appeal of its solution for organizations of all sizes.
