Emergent, a startup specializing in vibe-coding, recently unveiled its new AI agent, Wingman, aimed at competing with giants like OpenClaw and NanoBot. Wingman stands out for its ability to operate on messaging platforms such as WhatsApp and iMessage, while integrating with popular tools like Gmail, Google Calendar, and Slack. Emergent's CEO, Mukund Jha, emphasized that Wingman is designed to interact with users like a human assistant, complete with its own digital identity, including a phone number and an email address.
The launch of Wingman places Emergent in direct competition with similar tools developed by major companies such as Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI. These AI agents, which rely on large language models, are capable of executing complex tasks in a semi-autonomous manner, going beyond simple chatbots by making decisions for the user.
Emergent, founded by Mukund Jha and his brother Madhav Jha as part of Y Combinator's 2024 cohort, has experienced rapid growth. In February, the company announced an annual revenue of $100 million, with a base of 6 million developers. In January, it raised $70 million in a Series B funding round, backed by Khosla Ventures and SoftBank Vision Fund 2.
Enhanced Security and Advanced Features
Mukund Jha highlighted Wingman's robust security, stating that the startup has invested significantly to prevent hacks and data breaches. Security teams have conducted simulated attacks to identify and fix potential vulnerabilities. Among the security measures are the absence of open permissions by default and the labeling of internet content as unreliable.
Wingman's business model is based on a basic subscription, supplemented by usage-based pricing. Jha also mentioned that Emergent's experience in AI coding gives the company an edge in developing high-performing AI agents capable of handling various tasks such as creating PowerPoint presentations or research reports.
Emergent aims to stand out through the user-friendliness and efficiency of Wingman, delivering high-quality results that are faster and friendlier than those of its competitors.
