Anthropic Reaches Unprecedented Valuation
Anthropic, led by CEO Dario Amodei, is currently negotiating a new funding round valued at $30 billion. This deal would bring its valuation to an impressive $900 billion, according to reports from the Financial Times.
This valuation represents a significant increase from the $350 billion in January, which was already double the $183 billion from the previous fall. For the first time, Anthropic would surpass the valuation of its direct competitor, OpenAI, which stands at $852 billion. However, the duration for which Anthropic will maintain this position remains uncertain.
Growth Fueled by Agentic AI
The rapid increase in Anthropic's valuation is supported by accelerated revenue growth. This growth is attributed to higher prices, increased consumption of tokens related to agentic artificial intelligence, and a constantly expanding customer base. The company's annualized revenue is expected to reach $45 billion soon, which is a fivefold increase compared to the $9 billion anticipated by the end of 2025.
Major Investors and Outlook
The main investors in this funding round include Dragoneer, Greenoaks, Sequoia Capital, and Altimeter Capital, each planning to invest at least $2 billion. The deal is expected to be finalized by the end of the month. Notably, three of these four investors also hold stakes in OpenAI.
However, Amazon and Google, which previously supported Anthropic with multi-billion dollar investments, are not expected to participate in this funding round.
