⚡
Key Takeaways
1Lambda aims to raise up to $4 billion for a valuation of $14.5 billion
2Its order book has increased from $15 billion to $50 billion, primarily due to a $35 billion commitment from Anthropic
3The company has added $1 billion in debt, and the round is led by Coatue and Blackstone
💡Why it matters — This fundraising positions Lambda among the most highly valued neocouds, but its reliance on a major client and increased debt usage highlight the fragility of its model ahead of the planned IPO in 2027.

The GPU-focused cloud specialist is looking to raise up to $4 billion, aiming for a pre-IPO valuation of $14.5 billion. This summer, order volume surged significantly, primarily due to a deal with Anthropic, while the company continues to finance its infrastructure through debt in anticipation of an IPO planned for 2027.

Order Book Boosted by Anthropic and Financing Under Constraints

Between June and September, Lambda's order volume increased from $15 billion to $50 billion. This growth is largely attributed to a $35 billion commitment made by Anthropic, which finalized an agreement with Lambda at the end of August. Lambda's valuation could thus heavily depend on Anthropic's ability to fulfill this commitment. Additionally, the construction of Lambda's data centers is primarily financed through debt, as lenders become more selective regarding profiles and loan conditions. Lambda was initially set to go public this year but postponed the project due to market uncertainty. Lambda, Coatue, and Blackstone did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Round Led by Coatue and Blackstone, with Added Debt

Lambda is raising up to $4 billion in a new private funding round, with a pre-market valuation of $14.5 billion. This round is led by Coatue Management and Blackstone. Concurrently, Lambda raised an additional $1 billion in debt last week. Raising more funds at this stage sets the tone for the IPO pricing and allows Lambda to have more capital before being subjected to public market scrutiny. Lambda's valuation has significantly increased since its 2025 funding round.

Target Timeline and Peers Already Linked to Markets

Lambda aims to go public in 2027. If the company proceeds with its IPO, it will join other Nvidia-backed cloud startups, such as CoreWeave and Nebius, which are now relying on their stock performance to finance the construction of their data centers. In the UK, Nscale, another cloud startup, submitted an IPO application last month and is expected to begin its listing soon.
