Greg Brockman, co-founder and president of OpenAI, has officially taken charge of the company's product strategy. This decision, reported by Wired, confirms a shift in direction that had already begun, with Brockman overseeing the company's products on an interim basis during the medical leave of Fidji Simo, CEO of AGI implementation.
In a memo addressed to staff, Brockman outlined his plans for the future of OpenAI's products. He envisions combining ChatGPT and Codex, the company's programming product, into a unified experience. This initiative aims to strengthen the company's focus on an agentic future, with the goal of dominating both the consumer and enterprise markets.
This change comes after Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, declared a "code red" at the end of last year. Altman emphasized the need for the company to refocus its efforts on the core experience of ChatGPT. As a result, OpenAI has put an end to certain secondary initiatives, such as the video generator Sora and OpenAI for Science. The company is now concentrating on developing a super app for AI.
In a statement to TechCrunch, OpenAI confirmed that Fidji Simo, although on medical leave, has collaborated with Brockman on these recent strategic developments.
