Steve Wozniak Highlights Human Intelligence in the Face of AI

Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple, recently delivered a speech at the graduation ceremony of Grand Valley State University. This speech, which took place earlier this month, was met with acclaim from students after he asserted that they possess AI, or "real intelligence."

Wozniak reassured the new graduates who are about to enter the job market, a market currently undergoing a major transformation due to the AI revolution. His remark about real intelligence elicited laughter and enthusiastic applause from the audience.

He went on to explain, "It would take too long to delve deeply into what I think about AI, but we have tried to create a brain." He then questioned, "Is there a way to duplicate a routine a trillion times and make it work like a brain? AI is one of those attempts." These reflections highlighted the challenges and ambitions associated with creating artificial intelligence that could rival the human brain.

While Wozniak received warm applause, other speakers did not fare as well. In the weeks that followed, figures such as former Google CEO Eric Schmidt and real estate leader Gloria Caulfield were booed for their comments on AI during separate graduation ceremonies.

The impact of AI on the job market is a major concern for new graduates. This technology is not only changing the skills required but also the ways companies evaluate candidates. Furthermore, the increasing automation has led some companies to implement layoffs, heightening anxieties.

In his speech, Wozniak also encouraged students to "think differently" and not to follow the paths already taken by others. "Don't follow the same steps as a million other people. Think, is there something I can do a little differently?" he advised, urging young graduates to innovate in their budding careers.
