Departure of the Last Co-Founders of xAI
This month, the artificial intelligence startup xAI, founded by Elon Musk, saw the departure of its last two co-founders, Manuel Kroiss and Ross Nordeen. According to Business Insider, Kroiss announced his departure, followed by Nordeen a few days later. Earlier, it seemed that almost all 11 co-founders of xAI had already left the company.
A Deep Reorganization
Elon Musk recently stated that xAI had not been properly structured at its inception. He has therefore undertaken to rebuild the company from the ground up. This restructuring is accompanied by the integration of xAI within SpaceX, another of Musk's companies, which is considering going public.
A Strategic Shift
Kroiss and Nordeen, who reported directly to Musk, held key roles within xAI. Kroiss led the pre-training team, while Nordeen, a former Tesla employee, was seen as Musk's "right-hand man." He also played a role in the layoffs at Twitter following its acquisition by Musk in 2022.
Towards a New Era
With the departure of these central figures, xAI enters a new phase of its development. The company was recently acquired by SpaceX, bringing SpaceX, xAI, and X (formerly Twitter) under one roof. This merger could redefine the company's goals and strategy as Musk continues to consolidate his projects under a single entity.
