Spotify recently announced a significant expansion of its AI DJ, an interactive feature that allows users to request songs and receive spoken commentary through artificial intelligence. This feature now supports four new languages: French, German, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese. Until now, the AI DJ was only available in English and Spanish.
Each language is associated with a distinct AI DJ, complete with a name and personality tailored to the language: Maia for French, Ben for German, Alex for Italian, and Dani for Brazilian Portuguese. This personalization aims to provide a more immersive and engaging user experience.
In addition to adding new languages, Spotify has expanded the geographical availability of this feature. The AI DJ is now accessible in countries such as Austria, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, South Korea, and Switzerland, bringing the total to over 75 countries.
Since its initial launch, Spotify's AI DJ has evolved to become more interactive. In May 2025, Spotify introduced an update allowing users to converse with the AI DJ to change the mood or music genre. This feature draws inspiration from other conversational AI technologies such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini.
Spotify continues to enrich its app with AI features, including the creation of personalized playlists based on user-expressed preferences. This approach aims to provide a more personalized and intuitive listening experience.
