Cursor 3 Redefines IDEs with Parallel AI Agents

Cursor recently unveiled version 3 of its AI-based coding tool, marking a significant turning point with a completely redesigned interface. This new version emphasizes AI agents capable of generating the majority of the code while allowing developers to manage multiple agents in parallel.

Cursor 3 offers unprecedented flexibility by enabling agent sessions to seamlessly switch between cloud and local environments. Agents can be activated from the desktop application, as well as through mobile devices, the web, and collaborative platforms such as Slack, GitHub, and Linear.

An Agent-Centric Interface

The Cursor team has rebuilt the interface from the ground up for version 3, focusing on an agent-centric approach. This new layout supports multiple workspaces simultaneously, allowing developers and agents to collaborate beyond the confines of traditional repositories. While the classic IDE layout remains available, the new interface unifies all active agents, whether local or in the cloud, into a convenient sidebar.

The cloud agents of Cursor 3 are capable of automatically creating demonstrations and screenshots of their work, making it easier for developers to verify results. A cloud agent can, for example, autonomously analyze a bug and document its process with demonstration videos and test results.

Key Features of Cursor 3

• Quick Transfer of Agent Sessions: Developers can transfer a cloud session to their local machine to test changes and iterate quickly with Composer 2, Cursor's coding model. Conversely, local sessions can be pushed to the cloud so that agents can continue to operate even after the computer is shut down.

• New Diff View: This feature simplifies the review and editing of changes. Staging, committing, and managing pull requests are integrated directly, eliminating the need to switch to a separate Git tool.

• Integrated Browser: Agents can open local websites, navigate, and interact with them via prompts. A plugin marketplace also offers hundreds of extensions, including MCPs, skills, and sub-agents.
