Google Introduces Ask Maps with AI Gemini
Google has recently unveiled Ask Maps, a new conversational feature that utilizes Gemini artificial intelligence models. This innovation allows users to ask questions in natural language, such as "Is there a public tennis court with lights where I can play tonight?" or "My phone is dying — where can I charge it without waiting long for a coffee?"
The power of Ask Maps is based on a vast database that includes over 300 million places and reviews provided by more than 500 million contributors. Search results are displayed on a personalized map, which takes into account previous searches and locations saved by the user. Additionally, this feature allows users to book tables, save or share locations, and access navigation directly.
Currently, Ask Maps is available in the United States and India on Android and iOS platforms, with a desktop version planned for release soon.
Immersive 3D Navigation
In parallel, Google announced the launch of Immersive Navigation, an enhancement to its navigation system that offers a 3D view of the surroundings. This feature includes detailed visual representations of buildings, viaducts, and lane markings, generated using Gemini models that analyze Street View images and aerial shots.
Immersive Navigation will initially be available in the United States, with plans to extend to more iOS and Android devices, as well as CarPlay, Android Auto, and vehicles equipped with Google in the coming months.
