Deezer Stands Out with AI Music Detection Tool
In response to the rise of AI-generated music on streaming platforms, Deezer is taking a bold initiative. The company has announced the launch of a free tool that allows users to detect AI-generated tracks across 20 of the most popular streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, and YouTube Music. This new online tool supports 27 languages and enables users to scan their playlists for the presence of synthetic music.
A Proactive Response to Industry Challenges
As AI-generated music raises concerns related to copyright and potential manipulations of streaming systems, Deezer positions itself as a pioneer. Unlike competitors such as Apple Music and Spotify, which prefer a tagging approach, Deezer actively removes AI tracks from its recommendations and excludes them from editorial playlists. This strategy could enhance Deezer's appeal to consumers who value transparency.
A Strong Commitment Against Music Fraud
Deezer has emphasized its commitment to transparency in music streaming. For the past eighteen months, Deezer has been working to detect and tag AI-generated music. The company recently decided to offer its detection technology to competing platforms, allowing all users to verify the presence of synthetic music in their playlists, regardless of the platform used.
A Massive Influx of AI Music on Deezer
Deezer revealed that approximately 44% of the new music uploaded to its platform is AI-generated, with nearly 75,000 tracks added daily, totaling over two million per month. Despite this influx, AI-generated music accounts for only 1 to 3% of total streams, and 85% of these streams are reported as fraudulent and demonetized.
Towards Stricter Regulation?
Deezer is considering new measures to regulate AI-generated music, such as updating supplier policies or removing content, following the example of Bandcamp, which banned AI music earlier this year. This initiative could influence other players in the music industry to adopt similar policies.
