Full Analysis

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy recently raised concerns about the safety of artificial intelligence models developed by Anthropic. These worries led Anthropic to suspend global access to two of its models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, last Friday.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Jassy informed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and other government officials that Amazon researchers had used Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 model to obtain information that could potentially be used in cyberattacks. As a result, the government imposed an export control ban on these models.

A spokesperson for Amazon told the Wall Street Journal that it is not uncommon for governments to seek the company's input on potential security risks, but declined to share details of the discussions.

Reports from The Information and Reuters confirm that Amazon, as a major investor in Anthropic, has expressed similar concerns regarding the safety of Anthropic's models. David Sacks, former AI lead under the Trump administration and co-chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, also commented on the situation. He mentioned that a trusted partner of Anthropic and the U.S. government had provided information about a "jailbreak" of the models.

Sacks clarified that the administration had asked Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, to fix the jailbreak or withdraw the model. Dario Amodei reportedly declined this request.
