OpenAI Prepares a Revolutionary AI Model
According to an internal memo from Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, reported by The Information, the company has completed the pre-training of a new artificial intelligence model named "Spud." This model, described as "very powerful," could be available in a few weeks and has the potential to "really accelerate the economy."
Altman emphasized that the progress made in the development of this model has exceeded the initial expectations of the team. Meanwhile, OpenAI's production organization will be renamed "AGI Deployment."
Resource Reallocation and New Priorities
To support the development of Spud and other priority projects, OpenAI has chosen to shut down its video application Sora. This decision aims to free up the computing capacity needed for new initiatives.
Spud could also serve as the foundation for a "superapp" for desktops that OpenAI plans to launch. This application would integrate several of its flagship technologies, including ChatGPT, the coding agent Codex, and the browser Atlas.
Competition with Anthropic
OpenAI is looking to close the gap with Anthropic, which has recently gained popularity with its agent-based AI systems, such as Claude Code, aimed at professional clients. OpenAI's Codex and Frontier models are still in catch-up mode in this technological race.
