Meta Behind on Muse Spark API
Meta, the tech giant, appears to be lagging in the rollout of its latest artificial intelligence model, Muse Spark. According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, the company has yet to set a specific date for the release of the API that will allow developers to access this advanced model. Announced in April, Muse Spark was initially expected to be available quickly, but two months later, developers are still waiting.
A spokesperson for Meta told CNET that the API should be available by June. "We know people want the API, and we are eager to put it in their hands," he stated, adding that testing is underway with some early partners. Furthermore, on April 10, Meta's AI director, Alexandr Wang, announced on X that "the muse spark API is coming soon!"
Pressure and AI Investments
Meta, like other giants such as Microsoft, Google, and Apple, is under pressure to monetize its massive investments in AI. The company has reduced its workforce while increasing its spending in this area, integrating AI features into its flagship products like Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook, and launching products like the Meta Glasses.
A Non-Open Source Model
Muse Spark stands out as it is the first AI model from Meta that is not open source, meaning it cannot be freely developed or used like previous models. This characteristic could be a factor explaining the delays in the API's release.
The Wall Street Journal notes that delays in launching AI technologies can have various causes, but they can also give the impression that the company is struggling to realize its ambitions in AI.
